It didn’t take long for the small Hawthorne Theatre to fill from wall to wall Monday night for the Portland stop of Movements’ headlining US tour.
New York-based Drug Church opened up the show with insane energy and heavy-hitting bass lines. The band’s passion for being on stage was overwhelming. Drug Church is currently touring in support of their most recent album Cheer, released this past November.
Trash Boat, traveling from across the pond, has built up quite the fan base in the US from previous tours and their dates on Warped Tour. The band is running on the release of their 2018 album, Crown Shyness. Upon its release, it was well-received by critics and fans alike for the band’s emotionally-charged lyrics and the perfect mix of pop-punk and post-hardcore. The band’s performance was full of passion just as the album is, and fans went crazy for it.
Boston Manor, another band hailing from the UK had the crowd jumping the entire set through hits from their first full length Be Nothing, as well as last year’s Welcome to the Neighbourhood, which you can find a review of here. Fans knew nearly every word and filled the area near their merch table following the set, eager to get their hands on a splatter vinyl of WTTN.
Southern California’s Movements rounded out the night with a full set of pop-punk from their EP Outgrown Things and their first full length Feel Something. While their career has been short, only forming in 2015 and being signed after a single show, Movements have made waves in the scene. And with new music on the horizon and packed shows like this, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
