Manchester Orchestra packs house for sold out Roseland show

Manchester Orchestra took to the Roseland Theater stage last week for a sold-out show in the Rose City following their performance at Revolution Hall the evening before. The four-piece indie rock band out of Atlanta is just over halfway through the cross-country tour in support of their newest album, The Million Masks of God, the long-awaited release since A Black Mile to the Surface debuted in 2017.

Manchester Orchestra brought their studio versions to life on stage in a way that could fill a club or a stadium and feel just as intimate. Anthemic, powerful vocals rang out through the large, tightly packed venue as the crowd buzzed with energy and excitement. With a beautiful light setup in the background, the band moved around the space and interacted with each other through the set.

Manchester Orchestra truly shined doing what they do best — soft, delicate, and intimate verses juxtaposed by building rock choruses that get your heart racing from the first few notes to the last.

With a discography spanning over 15 years, the band gave the crowd a cohesive range of new and old tracks, including their classic “I Can Barely Breathe,” which they played 15 years ago in the very same room.

Fans on the barricade and in the audience sang along to every song, helping out with some crowd accapella on songs like “Virgin” and “The Gold.” It was clear that fans were experiencing their years-long relationship with the band, and their music, come to life with every word they screamed.

The band slowed it down for a few brief moments throughout the set with “The Maze” and “The Alien” before kicking the energy back up again. The band’s ability to transition so seamlessly from pounding rock instrumentals to softer melodies like it was the most natural thing in the world had me absolutely captivated.

Check out The Million Masks of God and catch a show on the tour running through the middle of March.
